After the apparent trauma of being forced to spawn and having its first children used against it, the Symbiote later spawned in secret to protect its latest child, its pregnancy eventually revealed by Brock vomiting (morning sickness) after baby-related dreams.

In this storyline, the writers put a lot of emphasis into Brock being "the father" who wanted the child to "grow up right", as well as Venom as a whole wanting to be "good parents". Because of what happened to the Symbiote's other spawn, Brock insisted that they not force the child to be bonded until it was ready. The Symbiote itself hoped the child would become a hero.

Though previously considered an untrustworthy individual, Brock proved himself a good, protective father by fighting Scorpion off alone, when the Symbiote Task Force tried to take the newborn during the Symbiote's labour.

The child was eventually taken hostage by a former Kree host, Tel-Kar, and the Symbiote was forced to merge with its enemy in order to save its child.

However, the child, now named Sleeper, chose to save its progenitor alongside its father, forcibly bonding with then killing Tel-Kar, using his body as a vessel with which to explore the cosmos.
