The Indigo Tribe has to win the unofficial award for most important Lantern faction that gets the comparative least coverage in the series itself. The Tribe is built on the emotion of compassion, and was specifically crafted in order to try and save the Green Lanterns from destruction during the events of Blackest Night.

This said, the Indigo Tribe has one of the weirder origins, as the faction is created after Abin Sur - a renowned Green Lantern - joins forces with the indigenous people of Nok to free them for their captors.

Abin Sur remains behind after the war, and with the help of Natromo, one of the natives, forms the first Indigo Ring.

The Tribe itself was initially comprised of the worst serial killers and monsters in the universe, but given a greater sense of compassion due to the powers of the ring itself. While the vast majority have been taken out by a Sinestro-hired Lobo, the leader of the faction did manage to escape, meaning there's still chance for the Tribe to grow again.
