What Happened To Every MAJOR Character Who Joined The Suicide Squad?
4. Deathstroke
On the surface, Deathstroke seems like a no-brainer for the Suicide Squad. Sure, the government probably couldn't treat him like a grunt, given he's too smart for them and too powerful, but utilised as a team leader he could really do some damage. That came to pass in New Suicide Squad #1, but the execution was weirdly lacking, with Slade's design jumping straight out of the nineties and the overall tone of the book typifying the New 52's biggest miss-steps.
In this series, Slade Wilson led the squad (comprised of Harley, Deadshot, Black Manta and Joker's Daughter), on an ill-fated mission to Russia. Only, unlike other Squad members, Deathstroke was actually hired by the government to bring them all together. Of course, the problem there is that Slade always looks out for himself, and the Russian government actually make an offer for his services while he's leading the mission, which causes him to betray them then and there.
This is also the same series where Harley randomly unhinges her jaw to fight Joker's Daughter, by the way - just to confirm where we are.
Deathstroke gets taken down by a bullet fired by Deadshot, but that wouldn't be the last time he'd encounter the Squad - or lead a team founded by the US government. Slade would head up Defiance come DC Rebirth - a team slightly more heroic in nature than the one he briefly took command of in the New 52.
