What Happened To Everyone Who Became Batman?

6. James Gordon

For the vast majority of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's stint on Batman, Bruce Wayne was the one and only Dark Knight. However, when Bruce is seemingly killed by the Joker in Batman #40, Gordon decides to suit up and become Gotham's new Batman, albeit with great reluctance.

On a purely visual level Gordon's Batman is probably the most unique fans have seen. He wore a cape-less jumpsuit, wielded a firearm, and actually used a mech too. It wasn't exactly Batman's style but Gordon felt as though he owed his longtime ally enough to continue his cause, even collaborating with the Justice League on a couple of occasions.

However, despite earning the trust of Bruce's allies and protecting Gotham fairly well, this was still a pretty dramatic shift in direction and tone. Naturally, then, Bruce was returned to the series several issues later, while Gordon came back to his job at the GCPD.
