What Happened To Everyone Who Became Ghost Rider?
7. Danny Ketch
Johnny Blaze was, for about twenty years, the one and only Ghost Rider of his type. So imagine the shock to readers' systems when, in 1990, Howard Mackie and Javier Saltares introduced a second Ghost Rider in the form of Danny Ketch.
Danny - who is later revealed to be Johnny's long lost brother - became Ghost Rider when he and his sister got caught in the crossfire of a gang war orchestrated by Death Watch. While running from the gunfire, Danny's sister got hit by a crossbow (don't ask why Death Watch were using crossbows, you'll save yourself a headache), and started bleeding out. But when Danny accidentally pressed his hand, covered in the innocent blood of his sister, against an old, seemingly abandoned motorcycle, he was transformed into the new Ghost Rider.
While the Spirit of Vengeance that turned Johnny Blaze into Ghost Rider was Zarathos, Danny's spirit was one known as Noble Kale, who believed himself to be an ancestor of the Blaze family. Turns out he wasn't, but this should seem obvious to anyone who read the story seeing as how he was told this false backstory by MEPHISTO. Because the Ghost Rider mythos is full of folks who seem to think the freaking DEVIL might actually be trustworthy.
Because of his popularity, Danny - like Johnny before him - has stuck around the Marvel universe without a definitive ending. Thankfully, the circumstances behind his transformation means he can take a lot more fun out of being Ghost Rider, and generally speaking Danny is a far more openly heroic figure than Johnny.
Danny might not be the best Ghost Rider around, but we're glad he's here all the same.
