What Happened To Everyone Who Became Robin?

2. Stephanie Brown

Jason Todd Robin Red Hood
DC Comics

In a case of history repeating itself, the Stephanie Brown version of Robin followed in the footsteps of Jason Todd. As in, yes, young Stephanie’s time as the Girl Wonder ended in her death.

Previously a hero on her own under the guise of The Spoiler, Stephanie convinced Batman to take her on as the new Robin following Tim Drake quitting the Robin gig. The impulsive attitude of Stephanie soon didn’t sit well with the Dark Knight, and she then made a huge error in an attempt to win the trust of Bats. That error? Her over-eagerness saw some of Batman’s plans fall into the wrong hands, and from there a huge gang war took over Gotham City.

Stephanie’s attempts to fix this situation saw her caught and tortured by Black Mask. Managing to escape, a battered and bloody Robin would die as a result of her injuries. This was a major moment in the history of the Batman books, not least in the distance it put between Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake due to Stephanie being Tim’s girlfriend.

Like so many others, however, Stephanie’s death didn’t stick. Dr Leslie Thompkins had faked Stephanie’s death as a way to protect the youngster from working alongside Batman. From there, Steph would revert to working as the Spoiler before even taking on the role of Batgirl. Of course, after the timeline rejigs of Flashpoint and The New 52, readers were introduced to a version of Stephanie Brown/Spoiler who never became Robin.
