What Happened To Everyone Who Joined The Superman Family?

4. Jimmy Olsen

Superman Family
DC Comics/Steve Lieber

Like Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen has been there since the beginning. He's just one of those characters whose absence just makes the Superman universe feel incomplete.

As a character, though, Jimmy has gone through quite a few interpretations. Some versions portray him as a simple but earnest fool, while others show him as a hard-hitting journalist in his own right. Likewise, his status as Superman's pal is either portrayed as Jimmy being a tagalong who often has to be saved or as Superman's most stalwart supporter.

We most recently saw Jimmy take centre-stage in a 12-part maxi series about him by Matt Fraction, which can best be described as the most wonderful kind of coocoo bananas. In this series, Jimmy's affinity for finding the weirdest parts of the DC Universe and then poking it with a stick is officially monetized by The Daily Planet because, well, that's the only way they're making any money anymore.

The Jimmy Olsen series is all kinds of zany fun, and hopefully DC will keep this angle with Olsen for the foreseeable future.
