Why Comic Fans Hate Cyclops

6. The Leader Who's Not Actually The Leader

Cyclops Evolution
Marvel Comics

To be fair to Scott Summers, this one's a little out of his control.

Cyclops has for so long been positioned as the leader of the X-Men, yet the true leader of the group is obviously Charles Xavier. Despite Cyke so often leading the charge on the various X-missions we've seen over the decades, it's ultimately Professor X who is calling the shots and running the show.

Thus, Cyclops is in that weird position where he is the leader, yet he really isn't the leader of the X-Men.

Think of it in comparison to a regular job. If your boss is trying to make themselves look like the big star making important decisions, that person loses a lot of their aura when you realise they're just being fed orders by somebody else above them - and it's that 'somebody else' who you really want to impress.

Mind you, there have been times where Professor X has been out of the picture, which in turn nicely dovetails us into our next reasoning for why fans are so eager to hate on Cyclops.
