Why Spider-Man WON 2018

1. Everything About Into The Spider-Verse

Easily the best superhero film of the year, Spidey's final big-screen outing of 2018 was something to behold.

Though prevalent in the comics for several years now, Miles Morales has never really been given the chance to be in the spotlight, with Peter Parker constantly being depicted as the one and only Spider-Man, but - thankfully - that has all changed with this movie.

If you haven't seen it already, don't fear, there will be no spoilers here - but my goodness was it a ride. The art style alone could have made it a classic, yet, with Lee and Ditko's message once again being put at the forefront, giving audiences a depiction of a superhero multiverse without the toxicity that has been somewhat prevalent in comic book communities - something which is an amazing message to be telling the kids that will undoubtedly see this movie.

As with any good film, the performances were also brilliant, with each version of the character being likeable and distinct - a real feat for a flick centring around six alternate incarnations of one superhero. It makes the Spider-Verse a film that should be held in as high a regard as the likes of The Dark Knight and Logan have been in recent years, and that's no over exaggeration.

No other superhero has quite managed to dominate a year like Spidey has this one. Only time will tell if the character does it again in 2019.
