Erika Lehnsherr, anyone?

While comic-book adventures in gender-swapping characters and focussing on female roles often drum up controversy and review-bombing (just look at She-Hulk's ridiculous IMDb rating), it's still something that can spice up a role. DC's Johanna Constantine was a delight in The Sandman, Doc Ock from Into the Spider-Verse was a welcome surprise, and Jane Foster as Mighty Thor had, well, potential at least.

When it comes to Magneto, Marvel needs someone with class, intimidation, prestige and power, all of which apply to Jennifer Connelly, so why let gender get in the way of that?

Connelly is a decorated actor with decades worth of experience in cinema. She has played some genuinely compelling characters and is still chucking out stellar performances to this day. Her turn as Melanie in Snowpiercer is a particular career highlight. As Magneto, she could bring a compelling sense of gravitas thanks to her high-class energy, emotional nuance and intimidating aura.

Let's also not forget that she has already dipped her feet into the MCU, having voiced Peter Parker's suit-assistant Karen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. So, she's hardly lacking experience.
