007 Reasons Timothy Dalton Was Actually A Fantastic Bond

2. Criticized For The Same Reasons Daniel Craig is Praised

Once more Dalton is easily best compared with the new films of Craig. Adding to the somewhat superfluous hypothesis that Craig would not have been as popular if Dalton had not already taken Bond in a similar direction is the fact that Dalton was indeed railed by critics for the same things Craig is praised for. If Licence to Kill is a revenge story than so is Quantum of Solace (although who's revenge is hard to tell). While Quantum received mixed reviews for being a disappointing follow up to Royale, Craig still earned top marks. This was the exact opposite case for Dalton in Licence who was slammed by some critics as being dull, violent, and moody. Violent and moody? Isn't that what the Daniel Craig films are all about? Then again I guess Craig does smile a bit more in his films than did Dalton.
