10 21st Century Horror Movies That Are So Bad They're Good

3. Polaroid (2019)

Polaroid Horror
Dimension Films

From the producers of The Ring and The Grudge comes a teen horror Polaroid, based on a short film in 2015 of the same name. When a high school teen (her first name is Bird- yes, it’s that sort of film) finds a polaroid camera and starts to take pictures of her friends she soon begins to realise that whoever is in the picture dies a morbid death and that the vintage camera is actually cursed.

This film is definitely for the slightly younger audience category – who enjoy films like Friend Request and Truth or Dare. It follows typical conventions of this teen sub-genre: high school friends who must figure out why their mates are dropping one by one. It’s been done many times before, with the photo death plot taking debated inspiration from Final Destination 3.

Credit is due to the monster – it might be a demon of some kind, it’s not clear- who is left as a mystery until the final act. Some of the deaths are quite suspenseful and there is only little gore – an arm is set on fire in the cafeteria at one point.

If you’re looking for a lesser ‘scary’ film as such, something to watch with your friends one evening at a sleepover, there is no doubt this particular one will not give people nightmares but also won’t cause anyone to fall asleep with boredom, earning its spot on the list.
