Jeremy Renner's stuntman stand-in Jeremy Fitzgerald went through what sounds a lot like hell while filming one of the key sequences from the climax of The Avengers.

The accomplished stuntman - who worked on the likes of Spider-Man 3, Sin City, Live Free and Die Hard - was set to fall from a 30-foot building, but unfortunately caught his foot on the way down and slammed his head into a brick, narrowly missing a rain gutter that would have caused far graver injuries.

Grimly, Fitzgerald lost part of his scalp to the accident but returned to work quickly after the incident.
