10 Actors Who Just Can't Seem To Realise Their Full Potential

5. Carey Mulligan

From Doctor Who to The Great Gatsby, Carey Mulligan has dipped her toe into the waters of many a successful franchise. As rewarding as that can be, none of the actress' previous roles lend themselves to jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring demonstrations of talent. Her acting ability is top-notch, to be sure, and we're positive that the right role in the right project will ensure her place among Hollywood's biggest and brightest. One only has to watch her performance in the 2010 film Never Let Me Go to see that Mulligan's more than capable of portraying intense emotion over a moving, thought-provoking backdrop. So why hasn't she nabbed more prominent roles like this one? We're sure there's a reason, but it can't be a very good one; as we said of Cillian Murphy, there's never a good reason for letting superb skill go to waste. Although Mulligan does have a tendency to play soft-on-the-outside characters, we fully believe that the actress is suited to a plethora of roles, as long as she breaks free of the typecasting that seems to have taken her hostage. Notable Roles: The Great Gatsby, Drive, An Education. Next Seen In: Far From the Madding Crowd, Suffragette
