5. Tom Hiddleston

If someone suggested a few years ago that Tom Hiddleston, freaking Loki, would be in contention to play the next James Bond, you'd probably laugh in their face, and rightly so.

Hiddleston's a wonderful actor, but his rail-thin build doesn't exactly exude the physicality audiences expect from the spy. Plus, don't those crazy Loki eyes just scream "villain!"?

Then the mini-series The Night Manager happened and changed everything.

Hiddleston's performance as spy Jonathan Pine convinced many that his piercing eyes, tall figure and velvety voice would make him a neat fit for 007. Above all else, it demonstrated just how great the guy looks in a suit.

His age isn't a problem, though his popularity via Marvel may prove a little much, even though he's appeared in a supporting role and his tenure now appears to be up.

Producer Barbara Broccoli has reportedly called him "too posh", though recent reports indicate she may well have reconsidered her position. Fingers crossed.
