Concrete details about Ari Aster's new film Eddington are still firmly under wraps, though it's said to be a genre-bending darkly comedic Western horror film revolving around the battle of wills between a small-town New Mexico sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and a local mayor (Pedro Pascal).
The pandemic-set story is said to be politically charged throughout, with Phoenix's sheriff being an anti-masker whose refusal to mask-up kickstarts a chain reaction of violent incidents.
From the first and only official image released so far, it's quite the physical leap from the actor's usual wheelhouse, Phoenix kitted out here in a full-on cowboy getup which left some on social media taking a moment to even realise they were looking at the Oscar-winning actor at all.
