10 Actors Who Deeply Regret Starring In Comic Book Movies
2. Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey's Colonel Stars and Stripes was arguably the best thing about the otherwise disappointing Kick-Ass 2, and he stole the show in some of the sequel's most violent scenes. However, after the tragic Sandy Hook massacre, the actor very publicly withdrew his support for the movie and refused to help promote it in any way (it was a flop regardless, and it's doubtful him doing a few junkets would have altered that). What was odd about this was the fact that Carrey was a passionate advocate of gun-control long before signing up to star in Kick-Ass 2, while Sandy Hook was unfortunately the latest in a long line of mass shootings at the time. Why he would suddenly change his mind about the movie (which he maintained he wasn't "ashamed" of) was tough to figure out then, as was why he decided to link the movie to that tragedy. After all, his character made a point of carrying guns that weren't actually loaded, and everyone from creator Mark Millar to stars Chloe Grace Moretz and John Leguizamo would later express their bafflement at his decision to turn on Kick-Ass 2. Perhaps he sensed that it would be a critical and commercial disappointment, but regardless of his reasons, Carrey wanted absolutely nothing to do with this comic book adaptation.
