10 Actors Who Got Severely Injured In Movies (But Just Ran With It)
5. Viggo Mortensen Breaks Toes But Has To Keep On Running (The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers)
One actor who got injured and literally had to run for miles afterwards is none other than the King himself, Viggo Mortensen.
Portraying Aragon in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the on-set injury was caused whilst filming a scene for the Two Towers which saw the ranger of the north punt the severed head of an Uruk-Hai raider.
After four takes, director Peter Jackson asked for one more shot of Viggo kicking the prop as hard as he could, which the actor duly did and even completed the take by letting out a massive scream of frustration at the end and collapsing to his knees.
Jackson was so impressed with the take it ended up being used in the movie, but what made it so powerful was the fact that Viggo broke two of his toes performing it, as the crew realised only after the scene was completed.
However, the next shoot the production filmed involved Viggo having to run for miles with said broken toes across the rocky landscape of New Zealand's mountains and hills, FOR TWO DAYS. Being the champion he is, however, the actor just got on with it without complaint.
Oh, and he also chipped his tooth filming the Battle of Helms Deep and was back on set to film after a quick trip to the dentist after just a couple of hours.
