10 Actors Who Just Appeared In Their Worst Movie
1. Matthew Macfadyen - Holland
Though Matthew Macfadyen is certainly better known for his TV roles in recent years - especially his sublime work on Succession - he's carved out a solidly respectable filmography for himself with few outright critical misses.
But Macfadyen starred in his most unpopular project to date with the recent psychological thriller Holland.
Despite being led by Nicole Kidman and directed by Mimi Cave (Fresh), this is a deeply messy effort that feels more weird for weird's sake than enticingly strange.
Kidman, Macfadyen, and Gael Garcia Bernal certainly do their best with the material on offer, but ultimately this feels like too much of a retread of typical suburban thrillers while bringing little fresh to the table.
Consequently it landed just 20% approval from critics and only fared slightly better with audiences, scoring 24%, making this Macfadyen's worst-reviewed film so far.
He's good enough regardless of the iffy execution, though, that it won't hurt him at all.
