7. Miles Teller - Top Gun: Maverick

Although Miles Teller rose to fame a few years ago with a stunning performance in Whiplash, he's struggled to break out of the jock mould movies like that, Fantastic Four and Project X established for him. Even taking on unconventional parts in Bleed for This and War Dogs hasn't really remedied it, and Teller's quiet-yet-confident shtick has made him into an immediately identifiable screen presence.

However, Teller only really excels when his cocky attitude is undercut by the films knowing his characters are actually dicks. Unfortunately, a film like the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick, which will no doubt thrive on bravado and image if the original is anything to go by, almost definitely won't have the complexity Miles Teller needs to, well, not look like he's just playing Miles Teller.

Admittedly, it's the character itself which will be the biggest problem, as the actor is playing Goose's son from the '80's classic. Giving iconic action characters sons to pass the torch on to has never really worked (see Independence Day: Resurgence and A Good Day to Die Hard for two of the worst examples examples), and it's difficult to see Top Gun breaking the trend.
