10 Actors Whose Worst Fears Came True
2. Nicolas Cage's Failed Comic Book Movies
If you thought Ben Affleck was a comic book fanatic, then Nicolas Cage takes that obsession and dials it up to 11. In fact, the star's stage name was even influenced by none other than Marvel's very own Luke Cage.
So, you can imagine just how excited Cage must've been when he realised he would be donning Superman's cape in Tim Burton's Superman Lives. The actor even went on record stating that he truly felt he could "reconceive the character". As we all know, Superman Lives well and truly died before it ever saw the light of day, but that didn't scare the comic book lover away from the genre by any means.
Determined to bring a successful version of a superhero to life, Cage got back in the saddle to play Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider in two lacklustre features. He'd later admit that "Ghost Rider was a movie that always should’ve been an R-rated movie", but the studio clearly had other ideas and the passionate fan of the fictional heroes once again found himself at the centre of an underwhelming super-story.
At least he smashed it out of the park in Kick-Ass and Into the Spider-Verse, though.
