10 Actresses Whose Careers Didn’t Flourish After They Were Bond Girls

4. Bérénice Lim Marlohe

SkyFall (2012) is the Bond film that finally made it acceptable for the characters of M (Dame Judi Dench) and Miss Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) to be classified as Bond Girls in their own right.

However, Double-0 Seven’s romantic interest in the film was Sévérine, portrayed by French actress, Bérénice Lim Marlohe.

Having featured exclusively in French productions prior to landing the role of villain, Raoul Silva’s (Javier Bardem’s) frightened mistress, Marlohe campaigned heavily for the part. She contacted as many people as people who were connected with the production as possible to get an audition.

Although she was a key part of the marketing for the film, her screen time was sadly limited to purely the second third of the finished film. Nevertheless, she certainly makes the most of the role.

Since then, she has appeared in supporting roles in minor American action films and has started to make the jump to American television. However, considering the exposure that she was given around SkyFall (if not in the finished film) and being a brand ambassador for Omega Watches, Marlohe sadly has yet to break out into mainstream cinema roles.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
