Well Go USA

One of the most criminally under-seen films of 2024, The Last Stop in Yuma County is a tightly wound self-contained crime thriller centered around a hostage situation at a rural Arizona rest stop.

Confined to a mere diner for almost the entirety of its runtime, Francis Galluppi's searing directorial debut is a tripwire-tense genre outing which wrings every last drop of suspense from its familiar premise.

Elevated by a hard-boiled, noir-inspired script, lashings of dark humour, and more than a few surprises, this is an outstanding entry into the pantheon of low-budget, single-location genre films.

It's also bolstered by an exemplary cast, including indie filmmaking wunderkind Jim Cummings, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe, Barbara Crampton, and the ever-brilliant Richard Brake.

At bang-on 90 minutes, it wastes not even a second of its screen time, and per its narrow scope avoids feeling excessively rushed despite the small canvas.

If there's any luck, The Last Stop in Yuma County will endure as a cult classic in the years to come.
