10 Animated Movies That Disney Should Adapt Into Live-Action
1. The Rescuers
Another rodent-centric Disney film, The Rescuers a beloved classic to many. It follows the missions of the Rescue Aid Society, based in the UN headquarters in New York. The perpetually terrified Bernard and the glamorous Hungarian Miss Bianca fly around in a Sardines tin, atop Orville the Albatross, to rescue a young girl named Penny, held hostage in the Devil's Bayou by the wicked Madame Medusa.
The Rescuers was one of Disney's most successful films for many years, even outgrossing Star Wars in West Germany. It has also been critically-acclaimed for many years... and yet how many people actually remember it? A shame, as it's a great film in the vein of Thunderbirds and seems to have inspired family films like The Penguins of Madagascar to some extent. But despite its success, it would not be as hard to reinvent as one might think.
The Rescuers is not as popular as films like The Jungle Book or Cinderella, so it could easily be subjected to a bold reinvention by the right filmmaker, so long as they understand what made the original work so well.
A globetrotting adventure film could potentially offer Disney its equivalent of James Bond - the Rescue Aid Society operates all over the world, so opening up this fictional organization would be a lot more exciting than if a remake just followed the plot of the original.
Another movie that could potentially suit the times were living in, a film about international cooperation against the forces of even, that even an animal as small as a mouse can get behind, would be an inspiring message to get across the children in the same way Zootropolis was an inventive masterclass in world-building, but gets the message across the children that not everything is right in the world, and things have to change.
After all, getting across positive messages within excellent films for all the family is something Disney has always done, and seems to be continuing to do with these new live-action remakes.
