10 Animated Movies That Disney Should Adapt Into Live-Action

This entry is a bit of cheat as it's only part-animated, but so was Pete's Dragon and that was re-adapted. Mary Poppins Returns is in production right now, and many have drawn comparisons between the original Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks- it would be sensible to capitalize on the inevitable success of Mary Poppins Returns. Maybe this might be an excellent continuation of it- include certain characters from the film and make both films part of the same little universe.

Another lesser-known Disney film, the basic plot of Bedknobs and Broomsticks follows Charlie, Carrie and Paul- three British children evacuated to a quaint country village during the Blitz.

The children hate their new situation until they discover that Miss Price, the woman caring for them is actually a witch. In order to keep them quiet, Miss Price casts a spell over their bed, allowing it to transport them anywhere... and from there, the plot descends into nonsensical, disjointed adventures where our live-action characters interact with animated characters.

So the potential is certainly there, but a slightly darker turn might be to the film's benefit. And the plot definitely needs tightening up. But it's a classic story that we've seen works before in various guises- Nanny McPhee and Swallows and Amazons are lighthearted tales about the innocence of youth with a mature edge to them. Bedknobs and Broomsticks should follow suit.

And the fact it features a lot of fantastical travelling would prove to be an exciting prospect for children looking for something different to watch. A jolly old-fashioned British tale with a lot of potential, it'd be a good reminder both to us and the numerous anglophiles in America that even in our darkest hour, we can still have a good time!
