10 Announced Movie Sequels Happening WAY Too Late

Kevin Smith's Clerks follow-up Mallrats may be a much-loved cult classic, but Smith has been struggling to get a sequel made for the better part of a decade now.

And it's probably fair to say that even among the filmmaker's die-hard fanbase, the thirst probably isn't really there for Mallrats 2. Smith basically used up all his nostalgia clout with victory lap sequels Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks 3, neither of which exactly set the world on fire.

And so, outside of the most committed fans of Smith's View Askewniverse, there isn't a massive desire to be reunited with these characters.

Next year marks 30 years since Mallrats' release, and if Smith was really going to get this one made, he probably should've done it either when comic book movies first gained mainstream attention in the late '90s/early 2000s, or once the Marvel Cinematic Universe became the dominant blockbuster franchise 15 years ago.

The time for this one has passed - it's best to let it go.
