8. Neil Patrick Harris - Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle
Unquestionably the role that propelled Neil Patrick Harris back into the public consciousness, the actor was previously best known for playing child genius Doogie Howser M.D., and for a brief appearance in Starship Troopers. Here, however, Harris completely reinvented himself with a riotously self-aware performance that implied the actor had become a drugs and sex-addicted lunatic, who ends up stealing Harold and Kumar's car, and leaves some "love stains" in the back seat. It's a great cameo because it completely flies in the face of everything we knew - or thought we knew - about the man, shedding his pleasant as punch reputation in mere seconds, and no doubt helping him score the How I Met Your Mother gig that has been so prosperous for him in the last decade. That Harris continued to play the very, very straight role after having come out as gay is just the icing on the cake and a testament to the man's talent.
