9. Fighting Omega Red
Along with Sabretooth, Mystique and Lady Deathstrike, Omega Red is one of Wolverine's deadliest foes and one of the few to ever beat him in a fight.
Arkady Rossovich was a serial killer who was experimented on by the Russian government and turned into their version of Wolverine. Like Logan he had a healing factor but, instead of adamantium claws, he had a pair of carbonadium tentacles which can absorb a person's life-force like they're a fleshy capri-sun.
A slight downside though is that carbonadium is incredibly toxic and Arkady's implants would slowly kill him unless he could find the Carbonadium Synthesiser, a device stolen by Wolverine during his Weapon X days.
In their first encounter in X-Men, Vol. 2 #5, Omega Red ambushed Logan in a snowstorm. It was an epic slugfest, with the two tearing chunks out of each other in knee-high snow, only for them to be fixed by their respective healing factors. After nearly 18 hours, both of them could barely stand, but Omega Red was able to overpower Wolverine and capture him.
The two have fought numerous times since, with Wolverine more than making up for his initial defeat. It all ended though when Logan apparently got tired of just waiting for Omega Red to be poisoned to death and ran him through with the legendary Muramasa katana, which did the job a lot quicker.
