10 Behind-The-Scenes Secrets Of MCU Movies
9. MCU Movies Are Censored For China
China is one of the world's biggest movie markets - the viewership there is so large that it can make or break a film's box office. Take Avengers: Endgame, for example, which was propelled to the highest grossing movie of all time after making $600 million in China.
The Chinese government is a tad authoritarian though, so often Marvel will be forced to alter or even outright censor certain elements of their movies for them to be released there. It's not an issue unique to the MCU, but one that has produced some interesting results over the years.
Tilda Swinton's casting as the Ancient One was due in part to the fact that the Chinese government doesn't recognise Tibet as an independent nation (so having a Tibetan character prevalently feature would be out of the question), Chinese-made Vivo phones are used by Captain America & Iron Man (rather than an American iPhones), and Chinese surgeons save Tony Stark's life in Iron Man 3.
