10 Best & 10 Worst Horror Movies Coming In 2017
6. The Sandman
Italian master of horror Dario Argento – the man behind classic supernatural horror Suspiria and giallos like Opera and Tenebrae – has, despite a few comeback attempts, fallen from grace with many horror fans of late. Sadly, it looks like his latest offering, The Sandman, won’t be the film that marks his resurgence either.
A contemporary take on German Romantic author E.T.A. Hoffmann’s short story of the same name, the crowdfunded project focuses on a young man forced to face his nemesis – the titular Sandman, a serial killer played by legendary rocker Iggy Pop who gouges out the eyes of his victims with a particularly sharp melon spoon – years after his mother was murdered by the very same man.
While Iggy Pop is great, he’s no actor. Combine that with a schlocky plot and one of the daftest murder weapons imaginable, and The Sandman doesn’t exactly look set to match the heady heights of Argento’s earlier influential films.
