10 Best & 10 Worst Horror Movies Coming In 2017
4. Rings
Originally slated for a November 2015 release, the third instalment of the American Ring remake franchise has been shunted around the movie calendar a couple of times before finally being bumped from a potentially profitable Halloween weekend date to a not-so-lucrative early February release. And as we all know, consistent delays are never usually a sign of a film’s imminent success.
Though the first edition of the American remake series fared well under the direction of Gore Verbinski, its follow-up The Ring 2 – despite being helmed by Hideo Nakata, director of the first two films in the original Japanese Ring series – was a bit of a let-down.
In Rings, evil well-dwelling little bastard Samara is still crawling out of screens to scare her victims to death, except now she’s adapted to the times and is doing it via viral videos and email attachments. Spanish film-maker F. Javier Gutiérrez, whose well-received feature debut Before the Fall was released in 2008, might be directing but with that rehashed plotline it looks like the movie will be the same kind of disappointment as its predecessor.
