Tom McCarthy's superb, Best Picture-winning drama follows a Boston's newspaper team's uncovering of systemic sexual abuse by Roman Catholic priests, and though it may not say much new, it nevertheless examines the gripping investigation with deep, probing anger.

It's tough to pick stand-out performances from the ensemble, though Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams were nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress respectively, and it's safe to say Michael Keaton probably should've been nominated as well.

It's shot in an appropriate, unfussed style that lets the characters do the leg-work and simply deliver an emotionally devastating look at a horrifying cover-up. Filmmaking at its most noble.
