Infinity War was a somewhat miraculous balancing act.

Starring a grand total of forty different Marvel characters over the course of one two-and-a-half-hour film, writers Markus and McFeely had more than enough on their plate. But as a result of this, some characters were purposefully sidelined in favor of spotlighting others. So while characters like Tony Stark and Doctor Strange got lots of screentime, characters like Ant-Man and Hawkeye were left out of the film altogether.

Another such character who was essentially put on the backburner is Hulk. He got one (amazing) scene at the start of the film, before spending the remainder of the runtime hiding inside of Banner. Not only did this give Ruffalo in human form the spotlight for a change and give him a compelling character arc, it all but ensures that audiences are in for some bonkers Hulk action in Avengers 4.

Considering that Hulk and Banner spent all of Ragnarok and Infinity War at odds with one another, Avengers 4 will be the culmination of their conflict, and it would only be fitting to see them combine into Professor Hulk.

This version of Hulk has both the intelligence of Banner and the strength of the Hulk. Considering that Thanos bested Hulk through strategy and cunning rather than brute force, this may be just what the Hulk needs to stand a chance against him. Plus, the recently leaked concept art shows Hulk wearing a new suit, which is highly reminiscent of the kind of clothing Professor Hulk wore in the comics.
