Considered one of the genres strongest titles of the 1990s, The Swordsman was a huge hit and spawned two sequels. Primarily directed by King Hu, directing duties were also shared by a team including fellow filmmaker Tsui Hark and famed choreographer Ching Siu-tung. The story focuses on the Highland Sun Moon Sect and their struggles to protect a Sacred Scroll from falling into the wrong hands. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble cast fronted by popular 'Cantopop' singer Sam Hui who built an equally successful career as an actor.
