10 Best Joker Movie Moments

8. Dance With The Devil (Batman 1989)

Jack Nicholson Joker
Warner Bros.

Jack Nicholson's Joker is the perfect blend of Cesar Romero's humour and Heath Ledger's anarchy. He knew how to have a laugh, but he also wasn't afraid to pull the trigger - on absolutely anybody. And in his crosshairs next? A certain playboy billionaire by the name of Bruce Wayne.

The Joker has Bruce cornered at gunpoint, but before he pulls the trigger, he asks the curious question "You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" And it's Bruce's bewildered look before being slugged in the chest that truly makes this scene Joker gold.

The Clown Prince himself even reveals he doesn't know what the question means, stating "I always ask that of all my prey... I just like the sound of it." This scene is quintessential Joker - the mindgames, the violence - and there's only one villain that could make Batman his "prey."

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
