10 Best Legacy Movie Sequels Ever

6. Creed (2015)

Top Gun Maverick
MGM

The idea of returning to the world of Rocky Balboa through the eyes of a new protégé had been done before, but Rocky V was nothing short of a travesty. Luckily, Sylvester Stallone was given the chance to atone for past mishaps with 2015's Creed.

As directed by Ryan Coogler and starring his frequent creative partner Michael B. Jordan, Creed follows an ageing Rocky as he agrees to train the son of his late best friend, Apollo, whilst attempting to move on from his past demons. What comes from this is a brilliant, moving drama beaten only by the original film.

With a vulnerable, Oscar-nominated performance from Stallone and commanding work from Jordan, the film's themes of family, grief, and perseverance are beautiful and uplifting in equal measure, capturing the crowd-pleasing excitement of the original whilst carving its own identity thanks to its new star.

Honestly, Creed isn't a film that should have worked, but its emotional impact and impressive fight scenes makes it an absolute knockout.
