10 Best Michael Keaton Performances
5. Adrian Toomes/Vulture
When Keaton wants to be, he can be a right scary so and so. He is suitably menacing as Peter Parker's foe in Spiderman: Homecoming, portraying not just the Vulture but also, most inconveniently, the father of the girl that Peter likes.
Toomes however is not the out and out villain he originally seems to be, though his gruff and businesslike manner come from a place of spite. Like so many people along the way, he has been left out in the cold by Tony Stark, his company almost going under by Stark Industries muscling in on their turf.
That is one thing that the Marvel films, some of the them at least, do excel at. They show that actions have consequences. Toomes is created out of the very work that Stork does to keep others safe. Toomes then begins to build on this need, with his greed growing with it.
He is not a complete monster though, and he seems to have a sliver of humanity left in him by his final appearance in the movie. But, when all else is said and done - the finest scene in the film remains those few moments in the car.
Toomes turns around to Peter, each of them knowing who the other is, doing their best to save face in front of Toomes' daughter. Once she exits the car, he very calmly reminds Peter that there is nothing he wouldn't do for his daughter, gun in hand.
Villains boast all the time.
I believe Toomes.
