10 Best Michael Keaton Performances

2. Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice Film
Warner Bros.

Don't say his name three times. Seriously, you don't want to do that. Trust me!

B***lejuice is what happens when Tim Burton goes full Burton on a production, releasing demons hitherto unknown on the universe. Thankfully, one of those demons is B....the guy we've already named. He is a trickster. He is here to make you laugh. He is here to absolutely destroy you in every way and giggle while he's at it.

Basically Tim Burton then.

Beetlejuice was released in 1988 and was a success, serving as an addition feather in Burton's cap while cementing Keaton's skills as a comedic actor. The relationship he has with Wynona Ryder in the film is one of its strongest attributes, as his manic energy is tempered by her gothic style, and vice versa.

There have been talks of a sequel since the early '90s, with Burton, Keaton and Ryder all interested in returning. As it is now 2020 and there is no sequel, but the idea hasn't died in all of that time, it is a sign that there is a lot of love out there for this story. All the core cast have been quoted throughout the years saying that, as long as the story is worth it, they'd love to come back.

Beetlejuice is the very definition of cult film, with a special place in many peoples' memories.

Wait. Oh crap. I said it...three times...
