LET ME MAKE YOU A MARTYR
Magic Lantern

There is something just a little bit creepy about Dominic Monaghan. Even as the seemingly joyful Hobbit Merry you always got the sense there was a dark side he was struggling to keep hidden, that if he had come across the One ring he would have hairy-footed it off to Sauron without so much as a second thought. In Pet he gets the opportunity to unleash that darkness, and he does so with subtle malevolence.

When meek animal shelter worker Seth meets old flame Holly he becomes so obsessed as to feel the need to hold her hostage in a purpose built cage. Misguidedly set on "saving" his new pet, Seth unwittingly takes on much more that he can handle as events quickly spiral towards a pleasantly surprising conclusion.

Part psycholgical thriller, part imprisonment horror Pet manages to keep you guessing as to its true nature until well into the final act. It also manages to present the dilemma of who you think the good guy is as Seth and Holly trade verbal blows, and when you finally decide, the dark yet clever finale may well make you rethink once more.
