10 Best Second Kills In Horror Movies

7. The Librarian - Kill List

Evil Dead 2013
Optimum Releasing

Ben Wheatley's brilliantly unhinged psychological horror Kill List follows a pair of soldiers-turned-hitmen, Jay (Neil Maskell) and Gal (Michael Smiley), as they carry out a trio of assassinations for an enigmatic client.

After Jay kills the first target - a priest (Gareth Tunley) who bizarrely thanks him for doing so - he and Gal track down their second, a librarian (Mark Kempner) who has a collection of revolting, illicit videotapes.

An enraged Jay tortures the man before grabbing a hammer and resting his head on a table, at which point the librarian also thanks Jay.

Immediately afterwards, Jay bashes his brains in with the hammer, and while 99% of movies would cut away from the moment of impact, Wheatley instead horrifying lingers on this man's skull being broken apart by blunt force trauma.

It's brilliantly disturbing and a shockingly convincing effect for a low-budget film produced for a mere $800,000, and is in turn the single most memorable kill in the entire movie.
