10 Big 2020 Movies You Should Be Worried About
3. Fantasy Island
Fantasy Island was a strange, cult fantasy drama from the 1970s. It doesn’t seem prime for a movie adaption in 2020, but how about if they twisted the formula up into a gory horror fest? Still not interested? Too bad, because that’s what’s happening!
It just doesn’t seem like the sort of movie we need or want right now, but it could turn into a surprise hit. Still, with such a left field project, there’s plenty of reasons to be worried.
There’s a big market for horror these days, that’s true, and nostalgia definitely sells. But while horror has enjoyed massive success from small budgets recently, there’s been hundreds of duds which have fizzled too. There’s not much to indicate which side of that divide Fantasy Island could fall on.
Box office isn’t everything though. The film itself can be good or bad regardless of how much money it makes, and the attachment of Blumhouse Productions does bode well. However, it seems like it’s biggest punch is in its premise, and now that we know that, a lot of the drama might have already been sucked out of it.
