When Disney bought Lucasfilm last year for the small price of $4 billion, the first question on everyone's mind immediately turned to the prospect of more Star Wars films. It wasn't long before Star Wars Episode VII was announced, which is now on the fast track for a December 2015 release date heralded by JJ Abrams. We know that Disney is planning another trilogy, and got word a few months back that they also wanted to release a Star Wars film a year. The trilogy films would air two years apart, and the gaps would be filled in by spinoffs and origin films. Speculation immediately broke out that the first two spinoffs would be origins for fan-favorite characters Yoda and Han Solo. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote both Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) would be penning the spinoff films. On Friday, rumor broke out that Kasdan was in fact working on a Boba Fett film, according to director Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse), who had this to say to AMC Movie Talk:
"One of is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."
As of right now you should take this news with a Rancor sized grain of salt, but Schnepp has no need to needlessly spread rumors. It's not clear who his source is, but if he's right than that could mean that Kinberg is working on that Han Solo film. Boba Fett is in desperate need of a good feature film appearance after his character was taken down a few pegs when shown as a young boy in Attack of the Clones. Hopefully Kasdan finds a way to skip over that abomination all together and remind us why we love the Mandalorian bounty hunter so much.
