10 Cancelled Horror Movies That Could Have Been Legendary

9. Hellraiser: Hellfire

Hellraiser is not a series that has been scared of pumping out the sequels, with the franchise now containing a whopping nine sequels in total. By the time that the third and fourth films, Hell on Earth and Bloodline, were released in the early 1990s, it was clear that the era of gory supernatural slashers was coming to an end and studios became increasingly hesitant in backing Pinhead and co.

Following the troubled production and disappointing release of Bloodline in 1996, Hellraiser became a direct-to-video series and budgets became more and more restrained. The next film in the series, Inferno, was released in 2000, struggled to impress critics and the original script was later revealed to have never been related to the original series initially.

However, before production on the film began, Stephen Jones pitched a script for Hellraiser 5 called Hellfire. Hellfire would have revolved around a corrupt businessman harnessing the power of the Cenobites and seen a local book store owner trying to stop him. Whilst the basic premise might sound a little on the light side, the script was more than ambitious with its plans for Pinhead and would have seen a huge final sequence involving alien monsters storming London which would have undoubtedly been much better than what Inferno put out.

Sadly budget concerns meant Jones' script had to be binned and Pinhead fans were subjected to six more subpar sequels.
