The moment that most die-hard fans were excited to see while watching Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the unveiling of The Illuminati. Since the trailer dropped, viewers speculated endlessly on which heroes would make up the roster.

So, when the fan-favourite, Black Bolt (Anson Mount) was revealed as one of the Illuminati members, viewers were overjoyed. Not only was it great to see the Inhuman king in a MCU film, it was nice the filmmakers maintained the character's distinctive look. Because of the tuning fork on his hood and the jagged, silver inlays across his suit, his costume couldn't have looked more comic-accurate.

But people were so happy to see Black Bolt, they never noticed his outfit was a digital creation. Although the actors portraying Captain Carter, Captain Marvel, Professor X, and Baron Mordo wore physical costumes, Anson Mount donned a motion-capture suit for his scenes.

It's not been confirmed why the production went this route but it's possible Black Bolt was added in the reshoots, not giving the crew enough time to put together a convincing suit. Because of COVID regulations during production, using CGI instead of having Mount fitted for a physical costume probably made more sense.
