5. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

One of the most famous adventure stories ever written, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea is ripe for a modern adaption. David Fincher has talked for years about making it but it keeps getting pushed to the side in favor of other projects. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea tells the story of a ship sent out to track down a mysterious creature that has been damaging ships crossing the Atlantic. The creature turns out to be an impossible advanced submarine led by the mysterious Captain Nemo. Three people are captured by the crew of the submarine and the rest of the novel shows them encountering a series of remarkable creatures and places. The film should be kept in the original time period for obvious reasons and David Fincher should finally be persuaded to start making it. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as plenty of room for remarkable scenes, including the battle with a giant squid and the discovery of Atlantis.
