What made that first season of True Detective so good was everything working perfectly in concert: the performances, the script, the direction, the atmosphere, the setting. Matthew McConaughey's doom-laden philosophical musings wouldn't have been nearly as powerful if they didn't have the swampy Louisiana surroundings as their backdrop, for example. If anything, the actor's turn as Rust Cohle would be an ideal audition tape for Alec Holland. The story of a brilliant scientist killed in an act of industrial espionage, only to be resurrected as Swamp Thing, the natural world's walking talking avatar on Earth, the series and character are best known for Alan Moore's unparalleled run. That same run inspired the terrible eighties Swamp Thing films (directed by Scream's Wes Craven), but Alec deserves another chance in an age of superheroes taken seriously and far better special effects. The physical aspect of McConaughey's recent performances shouldn't be understated, so you know he'd be good at the motion capture stuff. Once again, if they make him part of a DC Cinematic Universe as well, that means audiences could get an adaptation of the story where Swamp Thing comes up against Batman. McConaughey versus Affleck? Front row seats for that clash, please.
