10 Comic Book Movies That Completely Ignored The Source

6. The League of Extraordinary Gentleman

the-league-of-extraordinary-gentlemen-original It€™s a shame when one of an actor€™s last performance is part of a movie that ends up bombing. With the exception of a 2012 Scottish animated film, this was Sean Connery€™s final film appearance, and boy did this movie suck. It€™s a shame, because I€™ve always been a fan of literary characters crossing over with each other. Alas, this movie was nothing like the well-regarded work written by famed Watchmen scribe Alan Moore, Characters like Allan Quartermain, Mina Harker and Captain Nemo were kept in the film, but other characters were either altered or replaced by new characters entirely. Tom Sawyer never even appeared in the book, and they only added him for the movie to attract American audiences. In the case of The Invisible Man, 20th Century Fox didn€™t have the rights to the H.G. Wells character, so they changed him to some random guy who happened to steal the invisibility formula. I can look past Tom Sawyer and the Invisible Man (annoying Cockney accent aside). What I can€™t look past is the plot changes that this film, from change in climactic scene (invading a Tibetan base rather that air battle over Britain) to change in evil plan entirely (selling chemical formulas of all the characters€™ special abilities. Honestly though, after reading about all the production problems that went on behind the scenes with this movie, it€™s no wonder everything went to hell. Silver lining: at least we didn€™t have to see the movie portrayal of Mr. Hyde sodomizing the Invisible Man. Yes...that actually happened.
