Ripped Off: What About Bob?

What about Bob? starring Bill Murray at the height of his world domination is considered one of the greatest comedies of all time. Thus it was the unfortunate victim of blatant to be copycatting by repeat offenders KS Ravi Kumar and Kamal Haasan, who reunited once again to make another Kollywood classic, Thenali.

Thenali copies the What About Bob? to a tee. Both films tell the story of a man who has every phobia imaginable who is then directed by his psychiatrist to go and see another more arrogant and mean psychiatrist to seek help for his conditions. The doctor shows immediate disdain for the protagonist and we watch a comedy of errors and smart wordplay that leads to the man joining the doctor and his family on vacation.

This leads to a further comedy of errors where the protagonist changes the cold heart of the doctor and wins over the family. Also, the protagonist falls in love with the doctor's sister. And the climax of both films involves the doctor falling into a catatonic state after his vacation house explodes.
