1. Werner Herzog
There is no shortage of crazy stories attached to Werner Herzog. He's a man who has seen and done things most men could only dream of, and quite frankly, it's a surprise he has reached his seventh decade on this planet. Over his lengthy career, Herzog has encountered numerous life-threatening situations during his daring shoots. For his masterpiece, Aguirre, Wrath of God, he and his crew lived on rafts in the middle of the Amazon River for weeks, barely avoiding drowning. With Aguirre, Herzog's legend grew, especially surrounding his volatile relationship with actor, Klaus Kinski. At one point during production, Kinski seeked to leave the production and only ended up staying after the director threatened to shoot the actor and then himself. Working ith Herzog was no ordinary experience, and he was always determined to get the perfect shot no matter the consequences. Another infamous story about Herzog's craziness is about the filming of Fitzcarraldo. The film is about a man who has to pull a steamship over a large hill so he had his crew pulled a 320-ton steamship over a hill without a single special effect being used. Herzog is incredibly proud of the feat and believes it will never be topped. Also during the production of Fitzcarraldo, Herzog had to convince natives not to kill Kinski because he needed him to finish the film. Herzog has always pushed the boundaries of filmmaking during his lengthy career, and it's clear to see there is no limit to his audacity or craziness.
