5. Sharon Stone - Antz

Most of the actors who appear in Antz were pretty bizarre casting choices, when we sit down and really think about it. This is a movie where we have Woody Allen and Christopher Walken playing ants, for crying out loud, and it's all a bit odd. Not necessarily bad, but definitely strange. We can sort of understand why Christopher Walken did the film -- after all, he's not exactly picky about the movies he chooses to be a part of, and he's a bit eccentric himself. But the casting of Sharon Stone is on a totally different level of not making sense. This is the woman from Basic Instinct, a sex icon for an entire generation of young men. And here, she's a bug. A sexy bug. Are we supposed to find her sexy? It's unclear. Her husky voice actually is a decent match for the role, so we can't give her too much grief. The bigger problem for this film is that it can't quite figure out what it's trying to be. It's a cartoon, which says children, but it also has Woody Allen waxing poetic about his place in the universe, which seems like it wouldn't be that interesting to the elementary school crowd.
